The work “22 stops” is a durational, site-specific performance that took place in 22 metro stations in Athens during 22 days. Every day for 22 consecutive days a solo improvisational Butoh dance was created and performed in the Athens metro, “framing” the works of art that are displayed in the stations.
The dance in each station relied on improvisational structures; emphasis was placed upon the process of responding spontaneously and yet consciously to the stimuli of the environment, in this case the works of art which are located in the metro stations in Athens. Through the employment of Butoh principles, such as the persistence to inhabit stillness and slow movement, endurance and the pushing of personal boundaries, and the emphasis on sculptural form and poetic imagery, the body danced the topos for 22 days (“I do not dance in a place, I dance the place”, Min Tanaka).
The “mapping” of the relationship between body and art exhibited in the public space, despite the ephemeral and transient nature of the work, was documented via photography. The work “travels/traverses” in the digital world in an attempt to investigate the boundaries of the corporeality not only of the body itself, but also of the art work. In addition, such “tracing” attempts to examine the notion of memory and the possibilities for transcribing, creating/re-creating.
The 22 improvisational compositions attempted to create a sense of unexpectedness and surprise to the commuters, to enable them to appreciate the art works that they might have otherwise overlooked, and to give them the time and space to see the world with “fresh eyes”; to connect with themselves and the world around them in a more profound level.
The work “22 stops” culminated in a promenade performance that took place in selected metro stations, “re-framing” specific art works. It was presented in Athens in April 2016 in the “In Progress Feedback Festival” that is hosted by Kinitiras.
In Progress Feedback Festival has been recognized by the EFFE International Jury as Europe’s finest festivals. The festival was held from 28/03/2016 to 10/04/2016 and it had the subject “Urban Surprises”. The aim was to create short site-specific projects outdoors that acted as little surprises in the everyday life of the urban landscape.

Το έργο “22 stops” είναι μια durational, site-specific performance, η οποία έλαβε χώρα σε 22 σταθμούς του μετρό της Αθήνας, επί 22 συνεχόμενες μέρες. Για κάθε μέρα, επί 22 συνεχόμενες μέρες, δημιουργήθηκε και παρουσιάστηκε ένας σόλο αυτοσχεδιαστικός χορός Butoh στο μετρό της Αθήνας, «πλαισιώνοντας» τα έργα τέχνης που κοσμούν τους σταθμούς.
Ο χορός στον κάθε σταθμό στηρίχτηκε στον αυτοσχεδιασμό και στη διαδικασία της άμεσης, αβίαστης, και ανοιχτής ανταπόκρισης και σύνδεσης του σώματος στα ερεθίσματα του περιβάλλοντος, το οποίο στη συγκεκριμένη περίπτωση αφορούσε τα έργα τέχνης που είναι τοποθετημένα στους σταθμούς του μετρό. Χρησιμοποιώντας τις αρχές του χορού Butoh, όπως την επιμονή στην ακινησία και στον αργό ρυθμό, την αντοχή και την εξάντληση των σωματικών ορίων, και την έμφαση στη γλυπτική φόρμα και στις ποιητικές εικόνες, το σώμα χόρεψε τον τόπο για 22 μέρες (“I do not dance in a place, I dance the place”, Min Tanaka).
Η «χαρτογράφηση» της σχέσης σώματος και τέχνης στο δημόσιο χώρο, παρά την εφήμερη, παροδική και ρευστή φύση του έργου, αποτυπώθηκε μέσω της τέχνης της φωτογραφίας και «ταξίδεψε» στο ψηφιακό κόσμο σε μια απόπειρα διερεύνησης των ορίων της υλικότητας, τόσο του σώματος, όσο και του έργου καθώς και της έννοιας της μνήμης, της καταγραφής, της δημιουργίας και ανα-δημιουργίας.
Οι 22 αυτές αυτοσχεδιαστικές συνθέσεις είχαν ως στόχο να δημιουργήσουν μια αναπάντεχη έκπληξη στους επιβάτες του μετρό, να τους ενθαρρύνουν να θαυμάσουν τα έργα τέχνης, που μπορεί να έχουν προσπεράσει βιαστικά, και να τους δώσουν το χρόνο και τον χώρο να δουν τον κόσμο με «καινούρια μάτια», ώστε να συνδεθούν με τον εαυτό τους και με τον κόσμο γύρω τους σε ένα βαθύτερο επίπεδο.
Το έργο “22 stops” κατέληξε σε μια περιπατητική performance σε επιλεγμένους σταθμούς του μετρό, «ανα-πλαισιώνοντας» συγκεκριμένα έργα τέχνης, και παρουσιάστηκε στην Αθήνα τον Απρίλιο του 2016 στο πλαίσιο του “In Progress Feedback Festival” που διοργανώνει ο Κινητήρας.
Το “In Progress Feedback Festival”, το οποίο συμπεριλήφθηκε στα καλύτερα φεστιβάλ της Ευρώπης από τη Διεθνή Κριτική Επιτροπή EFFE (Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe), πραγματοποιήθηκε από 28/3/2016 έως 10/4/2016 και είχε ως στόχο τη δημιουργία σύντομων site-specific έργων σε εξωτερικούς χώρους, τα οποία έδρασαν ως μικρές εκπλήξεις στην καθημερινότητα του αστικού τοπίου.
